This is an incredibly rare example of a first-year production Thinline Telecaster. Originally developed as a response to a shortage of lightweight ash, Fender began experimenting with ways to reduce the weight of their guitars, leading to the early “Smuggler” models and eventually the introduction of the Thinline in 1968.

By routing out sections of the body and adding a semi-hollow construction with an f-hole, Fender created a lighter instrument with a more open, resonant character, while still retaining the core Telecaster sound. Finished in Natural, these early models were initially offered in limited numbers and saw relatively little promotion at the time.

As a result, original Thinlines from this first period are now highly sought after, known for both their rarity and their distinctive tone.

This particular example is in great condition, showing only minor signs of use, and plays beautifully.
